NETWORK ACTION PLAN

Steering Committee Mission

To make youth violence prevention a priority issue in the community by increasing awareness, engaging the community and strengthening networks of involved partners.

Network Action Plan 2009 - 2010

The Steering Committee has set four primary goals:

  • Increase overall awareness of the issues of youth violence and the work of the Network through expanded community outreach, social marketing campaign and a dedicated media relations program.
  • Advocate for safe and supportive environments throughout Peel by doing outreach to neighbouring communities and connecting with all levels of government.
  • Engage youth and families by keeping our schools, our community centres and our churches open after hours and developing new programs and initiatives.
  • Strengthen networks to ensure an integrated approach – planning an annual conference, encouraging diversity in programming and building in avenues for improved communication.

Advocacy

The Peel Youth Violence Prevention Network endorses the recommendations from the Roots of Youth Violence provincial report.  The report establishes the groundwork for more streamlined and effective violence prevention strategies that will harvest a safe and strong community.

Dr. Alvin Curling, co-author of the provincial report, Roots of Youth Violence addresses a crowd of young people and community service partners at the Uprooting Youth Violence PYVPN June 2009 Forum.
