THE STEERING COMMITTEE
The Peel Youth Violence Prevention Network Steering Committee is a multi-sectoral committee established by Peel Regional Council to develop and oversee the implementation of a youth violence prevention strategy for Peel region.
The objectives of the PYVPN Steering Committee include:
- Increasing awareness of the importance of youth violence prevention.
- Collaborate with community organization in government and the private sector to build upon the existing programs and services currently offered in Peel.
- Distribute the Peel Youth Charter and invite community organizations to demonstrate their commitment to youth by signing the Charter.
- Identify various sources of funding for the strategy.
- Develop an annual progress report to document successful community initiatives and to identify service gaps.
- Address specific concerns through social marketing campaigns.
- Pursue outreach to specific sectors, i.e. faith, business, education, facilities and multicultural groups.
- Oversee the working groups of community stakeholders in the areas of:
- Services and Support for Youth
- Community Development
- Working with Families and Education, Policy and Programs
